ARTIST STATEMENT

Creating is a joy for me and since I was a small child I found ways to express myself through art. In High School I enjoyed Oil Painting and Digital Photography. As a student of Art History, I loved Modern Art and Renaissance Art, but also enjoyed design and painting studio classes. Traveling and living in central Europe and visiting myriad art collections gave me context about much of the art I was learning about. It also made me aware of the art I was not learning about and made me more curious about my own culture. Self-expression and creating through art has always been a safe haven for me and has taught me the most about myself. My art consists of the things I find attractive in nature, vibrant hues, geometric shapes, and people (especially those I love). I am currently in a minimalist phase, where I find that less is more. I enjoy capturing, animals, flowers, plants, fruits, and vegetables. As for color, the brighter the hue, the more I love painting it or taking a photograph. I have always found geometric shapes appealing; and sharp clean lines are a source of calm, such as Giorgio de Chirico’s works. Friends and family are very important to me, and I enjoy creating the everyday things that remind me of them.

While I am capable of teaching and nurturing future artists and students, I know I have more to learn as an artist. As a lifelong learner that is curious about everything, this is an exciting notion. I am finding that now is a perfect time to take advantage of the skills I possess in photography, drawing, and painting. I'm honing in on my creativity and discovering new ways to express myself through my artwork to bring about a more evolved, and risk-taking artist within myself. One thing remains the same, that is that I still love painting, though no longer oil paint. I am beginning to experiment with digital art at the moment and am enjoying the Procreate application. At times I neglect my artistic identity, but whenever I choose to use my artistic skills once again they are always there to welcome me back on paper, canvas or whatever medium I choose.
